Early morning power cut affects 8,000 customers in Shetland
Almost all of Shetland was without power for up to an hour and 20 minutes on Monday morning after a high voltage wire broke at Scarva, between Scatsta and Brae.
According to Scottish Hydro the diesel generators at the power station in Lerwick had to be restarted before the electricity supply to 8,000 customers could be restored.
The power cut happened at 7.40am and the first homes were back on again by 7.55. The rest of Lerwick came on at 8.15 followed by the rest of Shetland at around 9.
The hydro spokeswoman apologised for the problems caused, which included inconvenience for thousands of people trying to get ready for work. She said the company would be conducting a full investigation.
