Lobbyless, Whalsay and New Rev join Judane in indoor hockey semi-finals
Lobbyless and Whalsay both recorded wins in the indoor hockey knockout competition for the Robertson Cup on Saturday, while New Rev also progressed to the semi-finals after Crusaders failed to field a team.
Crusaders v New Revolution
Crusaders could not field a team so New Rev go through.
Reckless 1, Lobbyless 3
Unfortunately for Reckless here ended their chance to secure any silverware this season but at least they looked the part this week, resplendent in their new strips courtesy of the fishing boat Quiet Waters.
The first half was a cagey affair with lots of midfield battles and few shots on goal. Haydn Thomason controlled the play for Lobbyless and linked well with the forward runners of Jordan Morrison and Kristoffer Thomason. From a well-constructed passing phase by Lobbyless, Haydn Thomason put them into the lead.
As always Reckless seemed strong in defence but were not as quick to press forward when the opportunities arose. They were to score, however, from a John Magnus Scollay short corner which was well slotted home by Georgia Laurenson. The score at the halfway point was one each and all to play for.
A switch in tactics at half time seemed to work well for Lobbyless with Kristoffer Thomason swapping in goal for Rowan Nicolson. Bethany Laurenson, Joyce Adamson and Louise Fraser for Reckless had shot after shot saved by Thomason who was impressive between the sticks.
Rowan Nicolson added to the Lobbyless attack by always managing to sneak behind the Reckless guard of Scollay and Laurenson. With these distracting tactics Haydn Thomason managed to go on a fine solo run and made no mistake when confronted with John Brian Adamson in goal, adding his second for the night.
Jordan Morrison controlled the ball well and managed to put Thomason in for a much deserved hat trick. Gwen Malcolmson and Ashley Burgess in the Lobbyless defence stood strong and kept Reckless from adding any extra goals to their tally.
Special mention must go to Reckless man-of-the-match Adamson for some superb saves which kept the scoreline from being any worse as Thomason looked as if he was well in the mood for adding more goals. For his controlling play and skill in despatching his hat trick the man of the match for Lobbyless was Haydn Thomason.
Whalsay 2, Saracens 1
This was a clean, end-to-end, fast game with skilful play from both sides. Josie Jamison commanded Saracens well with Emma Gray lurking dangerously in Whalsay’s circle.
Towards the end of the first half Maggie Irvine played a perfect “trow-baa” to Ian Simpson who made no mistake in slotting it home.
Saracens were quick to reply in the second half, when Ian Devonald drove in and equalised for the blues. With the stakes raised, both teams upped their game but it was Whalsay who scored the winner, again by Simpson.
