Mid Yell Junior High School sections due to start arriving on Thursday
Specially-built sections which will form the bulk of the new Mid Yell Junior High School will be shipped to the isle this week.
The 60 units, providing classroom space for the new development, are being ferried from Logstor in Denmark, where they were built, on the cargo vessel Wilson Brest.
Around half the modules are due to arrive at the Cullivoe Pier on Thursday, with the remaining units coming in a week later. They will then be taken on lorries to Mid Yell.
Windows, doors and internal finishings are already installed in the units, which each measure approximately 10 to 11 metres in length. With all modules in place, work will quickly get under way to connect them and complete external landscaping and service works.
Contractor MT Højgaard say the new school will be completed by 20th October – a year after the first turf was cut at a symbolic ceremony – despite some disruption being caused on the site by the recent bad weather.
In the meantime, drivers in Yell are being warned to be on the lookout for the modules as they are transported under police escort, and be aware of possible delays.
