Lerwick councillor recovering in Glasgow hospital after being hit by car

Lerwick South councillor Jim Henry was knocked down by a car in Glasgow on Thursday evening and has spent the night in intensive care in a city hospital.

Mr Henry, 72, who has been a councillor since 2003, is believed to have broken his pelvis in three places after being hit by the vehicle. He is said to now be in a more stable condition at the Western General Hospital.

He was in Glasgow with fellow councillors Robert Henderson and Iris Hawkins at the Fisheries Exhibition.

SIC vice-convener Josie Simpson said members’ thoughts were with Mr Henry and they were all wishing him a speedy recovery.

“It’s very, very disappointing to hear it,” Mr Simpson said. “He was away at the fishery exhibition promoting Shetland and it’s very disappointing that’s had to happen, but hopefully he’ll come through it.

“He’s got a bad dunt, that’s for sure. We just have to hope for the best. The councillors are all thinking about him.”

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said it was not policy to give out any information about such incidents because of data protection laws.
