Police name man who was found dead a fortnight ago in Lerwick house

Lerwick police have finally named the man found dead in a house in the town on Monday 31st May.

He was Joseph Mitchell, 24, from Nordavatn, Lerwick. The police said a report on the matter had been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

The police have also reported a series of incidents which took place in the town over the weekend.

They are appealing for witnesses following the theft of money after a break-in to Jamieson & Smith, Shetland Wool Brokers, North Road, Lerwick.  The premises were broken into sometime overnight between Thursday and Friday.

The police were called to a report of a disturbance at a licensed premises in Lerwick town centre at around 1am on Saturday. Following enquiries a 24-year-old man was charged with assault. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested for various offences including assaulting a police officer and a breach of the peace, following reports of a disturbance at the Clickimin area of Lerwick at 10pm on Saturday.
A report will be submitted to the Children’s Panel.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at around 10pm on Saturday for breaching his bail conditions. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
