Are they passing the buck?

I was disgusted to hear that the councillors had decided to push ahead with a tunnel option for Whalsay, even after getting advice from chief financial official Graham Johnston that there was not likely to be any public money available to build tunnels in the foreseeable future.

The public of Whalsay has been extremely let down by the 11 councillors who voted to pursue the tunnel option. They must know that with the state of the current piers that there is very little hope of there being enough funding available to build a tunnel before extensive pier work has to be carried out.

Are they just trying to pass the buck to the next lot of councillors who are voted on? I sincerely hope for the public of Shetland there are a lot of new faces in the new council, hopefully sooner rather than later.

All the people of Whalsay who care about maintaining good transport links to the isle would need to take time to go out of their way to thank the few locals who have tried and achieved to destroy the community’s chances of improved transport links for the future generations.

Hang your heads in shame.
