Luxury motor cruiser makes Shetland her weekend berth

Some people wait years to see a multi-million pound yacht on their doorstep, but Shetland has now been graced with two in quick succession.

Saturday saw the arrival from Bergen of the impressive 160ft luxury vessel T6, which cost £28 million to build over eight years.

The New Zealand-built, Cayman Islands-registered vessel berthed at Lerwick until Monday morning when she sailed for Faroe. She is known to be heading to America thereafter.

Her appearance came just a day after the £10 million Lady B, which had stopped off in Shetland following a post-launch cruise around Norway, set off for Stornoway.

Impressive though Lady B was, T6 could be seen as being on another level. She boasts five cabins and can also carry 10 crew members plus guests.

And if that doesn’t grab your attention, how about this? She is New Zealand’s only non-military vessel that can refuel a helicopter at sea.

All of which could be yours. Owner John Spencer, one of New Zealand’s richest men, is known to be open to offers.

The only barrier is being able to stump up around £33 million needed to clinch the deal.

Lerwick Port Authority’s chief executive Sandra Laurenson said the yacht was an impressive sight.

“It’s always interesting and a delight to see things like this,” she said. “Lots of folk have been down having a look at it. It’s quite beautiful.”
