After three years, museum welcomes in 250,000th visitor
A Lerwick woman has become the 250,000th visitor to pass through the doors of the Shetland Museum and Archives since the new building opened three years ago.
Alison Sinclair and her husband Sydney are regular visitors to the museum, either viewing new exhibitions or sampling the fare in the Hay’s Dock Cafe Restaurant. Around 85,000 people a year have been welcomed since June 2007.
On their most recent visit Alison was with her husband and she was thrilled to learn that she was the 250,000th visitor since opening.
Visitor services assistant Cathy Hallet said: “We are absolutely delighted for Sydney and Alison as they are regular visitors.”
In recognition of the significant milestone and the fact that they were attending as a couple, Sydney and Alison were invited to the restaurant to enjoy a complimentary meal with champagne.
Alison said: “I’m really pleased about being the 250,000th visitor. We come here a lot and there is always something different going on and something new to see in the museum, Da Gadderie and the cafe restaurant. It’s such a lovely place to go – it just makes me feel so calm.”
