Retired teacher scratched car parked on yellow lines in front of Tesco
A retired school teacher lost his temper after seeing a car parked on double yellow lines in the Tesco car park.
James Whitworth, 63, of Burravoe in Yell, remonstrated with the driver for choosing to park in the area outside the supermarket’s foyer.
However as the car made to pull away the motorist made a rude gesture to Whitworth who, annoyed, scratched the vehicle.
At Lerwick Sheriff Court today Whitworth was given time to come up with the £409 needed to cover the damage he caused.
He will appear in court again on 7th February.
Meanwhile, a man who stole food and drink from the Co-op supermarket in Lerwick and struggled with staff as they tried to keep him under control was fined £350.
Arturas Garliauskas, 30, of St Magnus Street in Lerwick, stole food and a bottle of spirits from the store on 1st May.
Following that incident he was told by staff not to return to the Holmsgarth Road supermarket.
However on 23rd May he went back, this time helping himself to two bottles of spirits and three cartons of fruit juice.
He was caught by two members of staff, but struggled so violently with them a customer had to intervene to help restrain him.
Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said all the items taken were recovered.
However he said staff were left in a distressed state after struggling to detain Garliauskas.
Garliauskas, a worker at LFT, denied having a drink problem. He said he was drunk and doing stupid things.
