It didn’t cost you a penny
With regard to the film festival screening for dogs and Colin Hunter’s letter in The Shetland Times last week, I can categorically say that this event did not cost the public a penny.
The dogs and their owners were volunteers, the projectionist and equipment were Shetland Film Club’s and offered on a voluntary basis, Shetland Livestock Marketing Group let us use the sales ring (as they weren’t using it that day), and my contribution was in my own time. I bought the popcorn and the dog treats myself.
The publicity generated for the film festival and for Shetland in general has been far-reaching and the only negative comment I’ve seen so far has been Mr Hunter’s, which appears to be solely based on the issue of public money. What we actually got was a lot of publicity for Shetland and the film festival, and a bit of fun for those taking part. And it didn’t cost the public anything.
