Police prepared to play long game as Greenpeace protesters bed in
The police have no current plans to “extricate” the Greenpeace protesters from their eyrie on the anchor chain of the drill ship Stena Carron.
Three people now occupy the yellow reinforced steel pod that was attached to the chain this morning and hoisted clear of the water.
Greenpeace said it could hold out for a month unless the government agrees to stop deepwater drilling.
Northern Constabulary said this afternoon it was continuing to monitor the situation. A spokesman said it and the ship’s owners, Stena, were continuing discussions with Greenpeace “to resolve the incident as quickly and safely as possible”.
With no plan to remove the campaigners the police said their main priority was to “ensure the safety of the protesters, those aboard the vessel, police officers and personnel from other agencies”.
Stena has requested a 500 metre exclusion zone around the vessel which is sitting close in to Bressay by means of dynamic positioning.

Just drop the anchor, the quorn munching jobless weirdos will soon move then.

Stop giving them any media attention and they will have no need to continue

As John said , pull the anchor chain up, problem solved, negates the need to negotiate .
I’ll even volunteer to raise the anchor

If I set up a protest group, give myself an evocative name, claim to be saving the planet/whales whatever, would I then be able to break the law, including health and safety rules, with total impunity.
No
Then why are Greenpeace able to do so.
