Interesting numbers
The following are some numbers that might help put the proposed Viking windfarm into perspective.
One pint: The amount of fuel sustainably saved during each revolution of a 3.6MW turbine.
13: The revolutions per minute of the new 3.6MW turbines.
27: The revolutions per minute of existing Burradale turbines.
72: The number of 20-tonne trucks that would unsustainably transport every day of the year the fuel required to produce the same power generated by the 127 turbine windfarm operating at 50 per cent (the average at the Burradale site is 52 per cent).
11,200: The litres of fuel sustainably saved on average every day of the year by one 3.6MW turbine operating at 50 per cent.
11.7 million: The tonnage of fuel that could be sustainably left in the ground during the 25-year life of the windfarm project if it goes ahead.
