Windfarm meetings

My wife and I attended the public meeting in Aith. It was conducted very professionally by senior council officials, Jan Riise, Gordon Greenhill and Hazel Sutherland who chaired the meeting and conducted it in a completely unbiased manner. Anyone who wished to speak was given the opportunity and not heckled; the atmosphere certainly was not intimidating.

At the end of the meeting I spoke to Chris Bunyan, a windfarm supporter who was his usual robust, jovial self, not “a wee sleekit cowerin’, timorous beastie” trembling in terror in a corner.
My wife attended the meeting in the Town Hall as she wished to know the feelings of the folk in the Lerwick area. On the advice of the chairman, Ms Sutherland, and Billy Fox of Sustainable Shetland, she did not vote at this meeting. Surely if it was felt there were problems these should have been raised at the meetings.

There are many demands for apologies in the letters pages but surely the Windfarm Supporters Group are due an apology to our council officials who handled the meetings skillfully and without favour.
