New isles consortium puts £20,000 towards Tall Ships event

Events Shetland, a new consortium operated by Captain Flints, Hughson Brothers and Shetland Refreshments Ltd, is the latest company to put its support behind next year’s Tall Ships Races with a sponsorship package of over £20,000.

As well as valuable financial support for The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick, the new deal brings on board the expertise and resources required to operate proposed bars at Victoria Pier, Laurenson Quay and Holmsgarth as well as providing refreshments for the official functions during the event.

Part of the sponsorship – £1,500 – has also been allocated to Sail Training Shetland towards its drive to sponsor the largest ever group of young people taking part in The Tall Ships Races next year.

The deal is the latest contribution towards the £400,000 sponsorship target needed to deliver the four-day event which takes place in Shetland from 21st to 24th July 2011.

The current sponsorship raised stands at £316,500 with sponsorship provided by Lerwick Port Authority, the Sullom Voe Terminal partners, Peterson SBS, Shetland Catch and Total E&P UK and partner DONG Energy.

Events Shetland spokesman Drew Tulloch said: “Captain Flints, Hughson Brothers and Shetland Refreshments Ltd are delighted to have the opportunity of becoming involved in this very exciting occasion, the most important event in Shetland’s calendar for many years.

“The members of Events Shetland wish to thank their organisers for their support and are confident of being able to provide an excellent service for The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick.”

Events Shetland’s focus on local produce was particularly attractive to us and will go a long way to ensuring event is a huge success for visitors to the islands and the local community.”
