Managerless Shetland footballers unable to send team to 2011 island games

The Shetland senior football team will not be going to the 2011 NatWest Island Games, it has been confirmed.

The team has been without a manager since John Jamieson resigned in November with immediate effect due to work commitments. No replacement for Mr Jamieson has yet been found and without a manager the team is unable to take part.

It had been hoped that a new manager would be in place prior to the entry deadline of 3rd December for the games, which are to be held in the Isle of Wight.

A committee spokesman said: “It’s disappointing for the team not going to the island games but the committee was left with no option.”

It was recently proposed at the association’s annual general meeting that in future managers could be interviewed by a panel of committee members rather than be elected at the annual general meeting. Mr Jamieson had been manager for two years, during which time he also managed Delting.

Other vacancies are for secretary, press secretary, reserve league fixture secretary and discipline and registration secretary.

The island games in the Isle of Wight will take place between 25th June and 1st July and will feature 14 sports.

Its a pity that Shetland will not be sending a senior football team to the games on the IOW. Its not often I get a chance to be able to see them in action as I live in Kent, I had hoped to be on the IOW to cheer them on.
