Tall Ships musical extravaganza to be headlined by The Levellers and Björn Again

The Levellers and Abba tribute act Björn Again have been announced as the headline acts for the Tall Ships visit.

The Levellers, who will play at Holsmgarth on Friday 22nd July, experienced massive chart success in the 1990s, outselling many other favourites of the time, with tracks such as One Way and What a Beautiful Day.

The Brighton-based folk rock band are appearing as part of their sell-out Levelling the Land tour, which also hits Glasgow in March and marks the 20th anniversary of the album.

Björn Again was created and founded by Rod Stephen (director and musician) in 1988 in Melbourne, Australia and is an internationally acclaimed show which celebrates the hits of the massively successful Swedish pop band Abba. They will appear on Saturday 23rd July.
The bands will join a plethora of acts at what is sure to be a highlight of the summer.

Tall Ships project manager Fiona Dally, said: “We’re delighted to announce Levellers and Björn Again as headliners for this summer’s event.

“The Tall Ships Races 2011 will be a fantastic opportunity for our many visitors to experience the hospitality of the Islands as well as acting as a fantastic showcase for all Shetland has to offer.

“This year we hope to attract large numbers of spectators to enjoy the celebrations as well as enjoy some of the most beautiful landscape and scenery Scotland has to offer.”

Other acts set to perform as part of the event include Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain, Eat Dr Ape, Stagger Rats and Oscar Charlie, as well as a whole host of local talent including Rock Salt and Nails, Fiddlers’ Bid and Catriona Macdonald.

The Tall Ships Races 2011 – Lerwick will attract sailors, boating enthusiasts as well as visitors and tourists from Scotland and internationally over the course of the weekend event and thousands of spectators are expected to fill the isles as the biggest maritime spectacle of the year hits Shetland.

Tickets go on general sale at the beginning of March.
