Pistol shooter Kevin Gray became a Scottish record breaker at the weekend.

Competing in the West of Scotland 50m Pistol Championship at Maybole, Ayrshire, he took gold in the Saturday warm-up competition. That set him in good fettle to smash the Scottish record by six points in the championship match with a score of 547 points and take the gold medal with ease.

Silver and bronze were won by Army team members Ian Jack and Mick Brown respectively

The result now means Kevin is ranked third in the UK, according to Scotland head coach Mick Gault.

In changing weather conditions from bright sun on the target, to dull overcast moments which changes the eyes’ perception of the target size, Kevin coped well and shot very steady over the two-hour, 60-shot competition.

Not aware of his score and the excitement he had created among the Scottish Pistol Association management, Kevin was delighted with his performance when told of his achievement.

He said: “I knew I was shooting well but I had no idea I was breaking records.”
