Three new head teachers appointed

Head teachers have been appointed at schools in Scalloway, Foula and Skerries.

Morag Fox is the new head at Scalloway. She began her teaching career in the primary department of Scalloway Junior High in 1991 and was appointed to the post of principal teacher there on a job-share basis in 2005.

Mrs Fox became depute head of the school in May 2010, and then temporary head teacher in January 2010. She will take up her new post on 24th October.

Janette Cowie took up post as head teacher at Foula recently following the resignation of Christine Else. She taught in Qatar for four years prior to arriving in Shetland and before that was acting head at Gilmourton Primary School in South Lanarkshire.

Rebekah Gibby will take up post of temporary head teacher at Skerries on 25th October on the retiral of the current head Sheilagh Smith. Prior to moving to Skerries she taught in Ross High School in Tranent, East Lothian. She and her husband are frequent visitors to Shetland and Skerries through their love of sailing.

A spokesman said the SIC children’s services department was pleased to announce the appointment of the three new heads.
