Architect firm shortlisted for top prize for Grödians development
Richard Gibson Architects has been shortlisted for the RIAS Andrew Doolan “Best Building in Scotland” Award.
The recently completed Grödians housing development at Quoys was one of the 13 shortlisted from an unprecedented 35 entries for 2011.
The award is jointly funded by the Scottish government and the family of the late Andrew Doolan, who founded the award, and celebrates the best of Scottish architecture each year.
An RIAS judging panel will visit the Hjaltland Housing Association scheme during the coming weeks.
Director Adrian Wishart said: “The practice is delighted that Grödians has made the shortlist and it’s very pleasing to have designs by Shetland architects gain national recognition.”
The winner will be announced at the Scottish Parliament on 17th November.
Richard Gibson Architects was established in 1972 by Richard Gibson with Nick Brett and Adrian Wishart recently becoming directors of the practice along with Mr Gibson.
Mr Wishart added: “Our aim is to continue and progress the high quality of architectural design that the practice has provided over the years, which has now had involvement in almost 900 projects in Shetland.”
Among other projects, the practice is currently working on its design for the proposed New Eric Grey resource centre for Shetland Islands Council.
