New CLAN Cancer Support centre opens in Aberdeen

The charity CLAN Cancer Support opened the doors of its new headquarters in Aberdeen on Monday.
Four years after first announcing it was searching for a new home, the organisation moved into the purpose-designed building on Westburn Road, leaving behind its previous home of more than 15 years at the city’s Caroline Place.
The new CLAN House will allow the charity to greatly expand the services and support it currently offers to anyone affected by cancer in Shetland, Orkney and North-east Scotland.
Designed with the charity’s wide range of clients in mind at all times, CLAN has created a bright, modern centre which also incorporates the warmth and welcoming feel that the charity’s previous base was celebrated for.
Offering specific areas for children and families, areas for relaxation and a wide range of therapies as well as outdoor space for visitors to enjoy and relax in, the charity was committed to ensuring the new building focused on improving the health and well-being of clients of all ages.
The new centre includes expanded accommodation for people travelling from outwith Aberdeen for treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
CLAN chief executive Debbie Thomson is delighted that the new centre is now operational. She said: “From the very moment we announced that we were searching for a new home the warmth and support we received was overwhelming.
“The enthusiasm and dedication we have seen from our supporters, whether individuals, families, trusts, companies or whole communities, has been overwhelming at times and we are extremely proud to be able to thank them all for their support with a centre which we have all had a hand in creating.
“We are confident the new CLAN House will allow us to expand our services over time to ensure that we can continue to provide our clients with a diverse range of facilities now and in the future. This is a very proud day for us all.”
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer. Based in Aberdeen, it covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland.
