Custody for teenager who smashed window after being thrown out of house

A teenager who smashed a living room window after being thrown out of the house was remanded in custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court today.
Trevor Couper, 18, of Cairnfield Road, Lerwick, picked up a stick and smashed the double-glazed window which “exploded” into the living room where there was a young child.

The incident happened at a house in Breiwick Road on 25th October. Couper also admitted breaching the peace and failing to comply with a tagging order.

Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said Couper had been attending the house of his ex-girlfriend’s mother.

He was thrown out and “wasn’t happy at all about that”, Mr MacKenzie said. The court heard it was only fortunate that the child wasn’t injured by Couper’s vandalism.

The police were called but Couper continued behaving in a threatening manner making “fairly pathetic, grandiose threats”.

Sheriff Graeme Napier deferred sentence until 16th November for reports, but denied Couper his liberty until then.
