Pair in court accused of breaking into Harbour Cafe

Two men appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court today charged with breaking into the town’s Harbour Cafe.

Steven Irvine, 26, of Lerwick’s Sandveien, and James Garson, 22, of Walls, are accused of stealing £150 from a safe after entering the premises on Thursday.

They are also accused of using a crowbar and hammer to attempt to get into Lochside Stores with intent to steal.

The case against them before honorary Sheriff Malcolm Bell was continued without plea until later this month.

They were released on bail until 25th January, with a special condition that they abide by a night-time curfew, which requires them to stay indoors between 9pm and 7am.

Meanwhile another man has been remanded in custody after appearing in private at Lerwick Sheriff Court charged with assault with a weapon.

Adam Nelson, 22, of Lerwick, today appeared from custody on petition before honorary Sheriff Malcolm Bell.

He made no plea or declaration and was fully committed for trial, before being held on remand.
