LBC New Revolution maintain 100 per cent record to clinch indoor hockey league

There were goals galore in the latest round of indoor hockey matches with LBC New Revolution clinching the league and also wins for Frankies Saturday Night Takeaway and Deltmavine.

Frankies SNTA 4, Deltmavine 0

There was anticipation in the air before the first game of the night as Frankies took on northern rivals Deltmavine.

The game started evenly with both keepers making some important saves. Frankies started to exert some pressure, earning several short corners and forcing Danny Peterson into several remarkable saves.

After surviving this spell of pressure Deltmavine almost took the lead when Rowan Nicholson was unlucky to see her shot saved well by Craig Sneddon. Frankies then broke fast through Debbie Sneddon, who held the ball up and fed Ben Fulton whose flicked shot met the backboard, breaking the deadlock.

This was a wake-up call for Deltmavine who started to play some nice hockey with Alister Williamson and Lee Balfour linking well in the circle but unable to find an end product thanks to some strong defensive work from the Sneddon siblings and Josie Jamieson.

The second half started at a quick pace with Donald Wilmore, returning to the hockey fold, making dangerous runs at the Deltmavine defence. Frankies were unable to increase their lead due to the combination of Nicola Blance and Lauren Peterson keeping the attackers quiet.

The game was played at a fast pace with the two defences keeping tight until good work from Frankies’ Jade Wilson to win the ball in the attacking circle. She laid it off to Fulton at the edge of the circle who had to act quickly to flick the ball into the net with the defence closing in.

This goal gave Frankies some breathing room and they started to play even faster, with Fulton and Wilmore closing down every ball. Their efforts were rewarded when Fulton intercepted a pass and ran through to finish past Peterson.

Three became four before the scorer could be written down as high pressing from Fulton allowed him to nip in and slot the ball in between Peterson’s legs.

Deltmavine recovered from this blip to heap pressure on Frankies in search of a consolation goal. However, Frankies’ resolve held strong and when Deltmavine did hit the target Craig Sneddon was equal to it.

Best on the night were Josie Jamieson for Frankies and Danny Peterson in goal for Deltmavine.

Filsket 0, LBC New Rev 8

Filsket only managed to field five players against the top of the league New Revolution so knew they were in for a tough game.

New Rev chose to take first pass back and were off from the first whistle. They opened the score within the first five minutes with a goal from Peter Sharp, which went through the legs of Filsket keeper Kayti Jeromson. Filsket’s Scott Jeromson and Debbie Smith made some good passes up the pitch but were unable to find the back of the goal. New Rev quickly scored two more goals, leaving the score 3-0 at half time.
New Rev started the second half strongly, hungry for more goals against the weaker Filsket team. Although Filsket put up a good fight, with more opportunity in their attacking circle, Sarah Couper in goal for New Rev denied all their goal chances.

Peter Sharp and Kevin Gifford controlled the defence and dictated the passing up court to the waiting Kristan Robertson, Stacey Laurenson and Emma Gray who racked up another five goals among them, resulting in a convincing win by New Rev.

Players of the match were Gareth Robertson for Filsket and Emma Gray for New Rev.

LBC New Rev 11, Zetland 1

New Revolution knew they could clinch the league title if they could win their games, and received a morale boosting good luck tweet from Great Britain hockey star Georgie Twigg before the game.

Zetland started with the pass back but it wasn’t long before New Rev robbed them of the ball and the on-fire Emma Gray continued her goal scoring from the first game to make it 1-0.

The Zetland team tried to get back into the game with Wilma Sim, Jonjo Reeve and Megan Grant working hard but New Rev, high from a great result in the first game, continued their fast passing around the court. They were slicing open the Zetland back line with another five goals before half-time from Stacey Laurenson (2), Bryan Irvine (2) and Gray notching her second.

The second half started with Zetland trying to get back into the game with chances falling to Magni Einarsson and Jonjo Reeve but they found Sarah Couper quick to block off any danger with some great saves.

New Rev pushed on and Irvine was able to get his hat trick. Stacey Laurenson was able to score three more with lethal finishes, bringing her tally to five for the game, and Emma Gray popped up to get her hat trick. Zetland managed to break through the New Rev defence at the end with a well-taken goal from Jonjo Reeve.

Players of the match were Stacey Laurenson for New Rev and Megan Grant for Zetland.

Deltmavine 5, Filsket 2

The game started with the team from the north having the majority of the play and looking to rip the heart out of Filsket early on. Alister Williamson had a few sweet strikes find the wrong side of the post though and the score remained love-all for the first five minutes.

Deltmavine thought they had broken the deadlock when Danny Peterson fired the ball home, but referee Simon Skinner must have been in a state of “twitterpation”and disallowed the goal.

With Gareth Robertson and Kayti Jeromson defending and creating a number of chances, the game remained on a knife-edge. It was Williamson who scored first, however, when his shot beat Scott Jeromson in the Filsket goal. Peterson then followed this with a goal of his own.

If Filsket were in any way affected with the way the Delts were playing, they didn’t show it and pulled a goal back before half time through a powerful Garth Robertson run and drive.

Deltmavine came out in the second half like fighters and increased their lead through a Peterson goal. Just when the average onlooker may have thought the writing was on the card for Filsket, they pulled themselves back in it with an unstoppable drive from Bobby Poleson.

The next blow would be the decisive one, however, and it went to Deltmavine. Nicola Blance went on one of her head-spinning runs up the pitch and her blocked shot was met by Gary Smith. The Delts then ended the affair with another Peterson goal to complete his hat trick.

Players of the match for Deltmavine were Danny Peterson and Nicola Blance. For Filsket, Garth Robertson stood out.
