Celtic, Thistle, Spurs and Whitedale through to County Shield semi-finals

The final senior football knockout of the season, the County Shield, has reached the semi-final stage with wins last night in the quarter-finals by Celtic, Thistle, Spurs and Whitedale.

Celtic edged out Delting at Brae in a close match, winning 2-1 with goals from Ryan Stewart and Lowrie Simpson. John Hutchison replied for Delting.

In a thrilling match at Gilbertson Park the home side Thistle defeated Scalloway 5-3. Nethan Watson notched a hat trick for the Jags along with strikes by player-manager Stuart Smith and Calvin Leask. The villagers’ goals came via a Steven Umphray double and Scott Henderson.

Spurs made it through 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Whalsay. Paul Molloy scored for the Milkbags’  with an own goal registering for the Bonnie Isle.

A Richard Sinclair hat trick and a Gary Tulloch effort saw Whitedale complete the semi-final line-up after a 4-0 win over Ness United.

Meanwhile in Friday’s G&S Flooring Premier League games Spurs took a step nearer the title with a resounding 7-1 win over Scalloway. Goals came from Paul Molloy (3), Jordan Webb, Connell Gresham, Sam Goudie and Joe Kay.

Celtic’s title hopes took another blow after Delting grabbed a 1-1 draw at Brae. Merv Jamieson scored for the home side with James Aitken replying for the hoops.

Whalsay came away from Ness with a 3-0 win courtesy of a Ross Irvine hat trick while Whitedale demolished Thistle 5-1 with goals from Jamie Wilson, Piotr Drozdowski, Richard Sinclair, Haldane Fraser and Greg Tulloch. Bradley Mackenzie got the consolation for the Jags.
