Youth granted bail after appearing on dog control charge

A teenager narrowly avoided being remanded in custody after he was charged with failing to keep a pit bull terrier under control.

Brydon Robertson, 19, of Nordavatn, Lerwick, appeared in the dock at Lerwick Sheriff Court today.

He is charged with failing to keep a pit bull terrier on a muzzle and a lead at Tesco on 11th August, and at Oversund Road in the town a month later. He is also accused of breaching court orders.

Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie argued Robertson should be held on remand. However, Robertson is waiting to take part in a course run by the Venture Trust – something the court heard could go far to address his problems.

His case was continued without plea until 31st October. Granting him bail, honorary sheriff Arnold Duncan told Robertson: “This is a golden opportunity for you. I shall grant bail in this case but if you fail to comply with any future requirements of these orders you will be brought back to the court. One slight slip on your part and I would think you will go inside.”
