Islanders to get extra Aberdeen flight next summer
Loganair has announced an extra daily flight between Sumburgh and Aberdeen in the summer months.
The airline will increase the number of weekday flights from four to five between May and September as of next year. There will also be increased frequency on Saturdays.
A spokesman for the company said the move was partly geared towards giving people who are looking to travel abroad more flexibility. He said the extra flights would match the schedules of Flybe and other airlines, giving Loganair passengers more options when it comes to catching connecting flights.
Loganair, which runs the Northern Isles franchise on behalf of Flybe, has also unveiled its wider flight schedule for summer 2013. Customers are now able to book travel until early September next year.
The airline’s chief operating officer Phil Preston said: “We are extremely pleased to be launching our summer 2013 timetable, particularly as we are offering more flights between Shetland, Orkney and Aberdeen.
“We hope the connectivity we offer with our airline partners continues to optimise travel plans for all passengers, whether travelling on business or seeking some much-craved summer sunshine in 2013.”

That’s great news on more flights, would be good if they also reduced the price a little bit more, to aid us getting off Shetland and have a reasonably priced holiday.

An early and/or late flight to and from Glasgow would be a huge benefit to Shetlanders. Currently there is just one per day in the middle of the afternoon. This means that anyone attending an appointment in Glasgow, in most cases, require two overnight stays. Just think of the damage my Wife could do to the credit card in that time.

Glasgow Airport is one of the UK’s busiest international airports, with around seven million passengers a year, flying to around 90 destinations worldwide. It is Scotland’s principal long haul gateway but due to the lack of flights from Sumburgh it is impossible to connect with long haul flights leaving for most of the day and requires an overnight stay. I agree with John Fraser an early and late flight to & from Glasgow would be great for Shetlanders
