Cullivoe house badly damaged in fire

Fire took hold of a house in north Yell yesterday, causing significant damage. The blaze in the one-and-a-half-storey house started shortly before 1.30pm at an address in Cullivoe.

Sixteen fire fighters attended the scene from stations in Yell, Unst and Brae. They used breathing apparatus sets and three hose-reel jets, as well as two main jets, to help put out the fire.

A spokeswoman from Highlands and Islands fire service said the house was 50 per cent fire damaged, 75 per cent smoke damaged and 100 per cent water damaged.

The fire was under control by half past five, but the last crews did not  leave the scene until after 8pm. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
