Shetland fiddler Maggie Adamson will be the special guest of former Runrig front man Donnie Munro when he appears at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow on Wednesday.

The acoustic set at the Mitchell Theatre will feature material from throughout Munro’s long career along with songs from his own work as a solo artiste.

Munro, who is also due to appear at Mareel in March, said acoustic shows were a “real departure” as his work had in the past always been synonymous with a big full-band sound. By stripping down the songs to their most direct nature it created the opportunity for a very different and more intimate way of connecting with the audiences and he had enjoyed the experience immensely.

He said he was particularly pleased to have Adamson join him for the show and to her bringing another dimension and musical “colour” to the songs.

He said: “Scotland is awash with amazing young music talent and particularly so in the area of traditional music and Maggie Adamson is a great example of that as an outstanding young player who has already made her mark on the live music scene.”
