Work begins to restore flow of Brent oil
Owners of the Cormorant Alpha platform Taqa Bratani have begun restoring the flow of oil through the Brent pipeline system following Monday’s precautionary shutdown.
The pipeline, which is operated by Taqa, was halted after a small oil leak in one of the Cormorant Alpha’s legs.
However investigations have found no connection between the Brent system and the pipeline involved in the leak.
The company says a “thorough technical evaluation” has shown it is safe to restart Brent throughput without any increased risk to the platform.
Cormorant Alpha normally handles about 90,000 barrels per day of crude oil feeding the Brent system. Production at Cormorant Alpha remains closed while work on the platform leg continues.
