Jordan Webb was named player of the year and became the first recipient of a new award when Lerwick Spurs Football Club held the 2013 prizegiving and awards dinner.

Players from the club’s junior, reserve and A teams along with their wives and girlfriends enjoyed an evening together last weekend to thank the coaches and volunteers and celebrate the success of the teams on and off the pitch.

The current players were joined by friends of the club and players from the very beginning of Spurs including the 1950s and 1960s.

The club was delighted to have Wibby Leask, Jake Nicholson, John Anderson, Harry Jamieson, Jim Peterson, Peter Malcolmson and Ian Scott in attendance and they thoroughly enjoyed the reminiscing of days gone by and comparisons with the current team.

This year Spurs was donated a large silver trophy by Jasmine Tulloch, in honour of her late brother Jeemie, who played with great distinction for the club in the 1950s and 60s.

The trophy was of such size and stature that the club immediately took the decision to award it to the senior A team player of the year. Jordan Webb was the first recipient.

The guests enjoyed a superb variety of Chinese food and wine and were well looked after by the staff at Baroc Golden Coach. Age group coaches reviewed their season and awarded trophies for top goal scorers, players of the year, managers of the year and most improved at the younger age groups.

Club secretary James Johnston said: “We always look forward to the end of the season awards evening when we can bring players and friends of the club from past and present together to reflect on the season and enjoy each other’s company.

“We would like to thank our sponsors and volunteers for their continued support which helps us to bring football to a huge number of players from age five to 45.”
