More apologies in the pipeline? (Les Sinclair)
It was heartening to read the article in last week’s Shetland Times that reported the apologies made by the chairman and vice-chairman of the SIC social services committee for their poor performance in relation to communicating with the public; a skill that is surely core to every function of any public authority.
Although there was a hint that perhaps their consciences had been pricked ever so slightly, there was no indication from either the chairman or vice-chairman that they felt any contrition for their failure to communicate effectively with the people of Shetland, and their attempts to absolve senior council officers of any responsibility for that failure was laughable. Senior officers are paid to ensure the council operates effectively; failure to communicate is a failure in effective operation.
Is there even a slight possibility that there may be a few more long overdue apologies in the pipeline from other councillors and officers?
