Community cash available

Shetland groups are being encouraged to apply for a “Heart of the Community Trust” award.

Thousands of pounds worth of help is available for deserving causes and Scottish Sea Farms is appealing for more charities and community groups to come forward and apply for help.

The Heart of the Community Trust aims to improve the lives of the local communities where Scottish Sea Farms operates and has already given help to the TSB Junior Football Club, NAFC Marine Centre aquaculture students and Scalloway Play Scheme.

Scottish Sea Farms managing director Jim Gallagher said £100,000 was available to distribute to deserving causes over the next couple of years and people needed to know that they could apply.

Mr Gallagher said: “The application process is easy and information can be downloaded from our website. We hope that people who know of a deserving cause will get in touch. We want to make a difference in Shetland and need to hear from local people who really need this help.”

The Heart of the Community Trust allocates cash to community projects in Shetland, Orkney, the Highlands, Argyll, and Dumfries. Projects eligible include those in the areas of health and health promotion, education and life-long learning, personal development, and other community-centred projects that bring lasting change to local communities.
