Help to block nuisance calls
The publication of information by communications regulator Ofcom which can help customers protect themselves against nuisance calls and compare charges has been welcomed by Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael.
Ofcom has set out the charges for services such as caller display, incoming call blocking, anonymous call rejection, last caller identification (1471) and voicemail (1571), across seven landline providers.
Information is also provided about what each service does and how it can protect consumers from nuisance calls.
Mr Carmichael said: “Customers should be equipped with the information that they need to protect themselves against nuisance calls and this publication by Ofcom is a step in the right direction. Their easy-to-understand table will go some way towards enabling consumers to make the right choice.
“I am disappointed that some providers still charge some customers for caller ID services. Caller ID is not a premium service and as such should come as part of the basic service offered by these companies. By publishing the table today, Ofcom have highlighted the choices that are available to consumers should they wish to switch to get a better deal.”
