Times in the running for media awards
The Shetland Times has been shortlisted in two categories of the Highlands and Islands press awards.
The newspaper is in the running to be named newspaper of the year and Ryan Taylor is nominated in the reporter of the year category.
Competition in the newspaper of the year category comes from the Island News and Advertiser, Benbecula, and the Stornoway Gazette. Mr Taylor faces a challenge from Press and Journal reporter Kaye Nicolson, as well as Jenna Conti of the Highland News.
Both entries from The Shetland Times included coverage of the fatal helicopter crash off Sumburgh in August. The newspaper entry also featured the launch of the “Drop the Debt” campaign and the visit of the Scottish government cabinet in July.
Editor Adam Civico said: “I am delighted that both The Shetland Times and Ryan have made the Highlands and Islands press awards’ shortlist.
“The nomination reflects the hard work by everybody associated with the paper over the last 12 months. It has been a busy year, with lots to report on and we endeavour each week to give our readers the best coverage.”
The awards attracted 134 entries across the 11 categories including Shetland News being nominated in the digital media category.
The winners will be announced at the Highlands and Islands Press Ball at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness, on Friday 7th February.
