‘Astonishing’ £10,000 raised for Team Malawi
Local fund-raising efforts have brought in an “astonishing” £10,000 for the Team Malawi Volunteer Project – in six months.
Seven volunteers started fund-raising in June ahead of a trip to Malawi at the end of May when the team will help in schools, orphanages and hospitals.
As part of the efforts to support the project the dance group Inferno held a sponsored non-stop four hour danceathon.
Team Malawi co-ordinator Mark Wylie said that had raised an “amazing £1,200 for the project”.
He added: “As well as this a Christmas disco raised a similar amount and Team Malawi volunteers would like to thank everyone who sponsored the young dancers as well as Inferno themselves and the fantastic staff of Baroc who worked for nothing at the disco.”
The seven local volunteers who will travel to Africa this year are Tracy Webb, Nicola Duthie, Mr Wylie, Jenny Teale, John Thomson, Jenny Wylie and Magnus Johnston.
