High tides around the isles
Friday and Saturday both experienced higher than average high water marks around Shetland.
The boat deck at the Small Boat Harbour in Lerwick was completely submerged with about 20-30cm of water above it at around 1pm on Saturday.
The high tides at Freefield meant the water was lapping almost up to the doors of the Shetland Museum in Lerwick. It also meant the former fishing boat Pilot Us and other vessels in the area were above the jetties where they are berthed.

Are these high tides normal or part of global warming?

Years ago when i was at bells brae school (1968 ish) we used to get half days when the weather was bad , I can remember this one day it rained very hard all morning then a note came from the office ALL HOME AT 12.30 ,, So off we went and on my way i had to pass the bottom of north loch side ,
To our amaizment it was just like a loch the dentist , fire station ,main rd were all flooded and the small boat pier had vanished just sea everwhare ,
I remember older folk talking . saying it was a very high tide I also remember it happning more times but not as bad ,, So that was 46 yers ago and far far worse than the photos shown above.
