Not in it together (Donald J. MacLeod)

Having lost 34 relations in the two world wars I am thoroughly nauseated by Unionist politicians like David Cameron smearing the sacrifice made by my kith and kin, and those from other families who died defending democracy.

It is contemptuous that some of the most vociferous anti-independence mouthpieces  come from families who never fired a bullet in defence of this country.

One of my relations gave up his studies at Edinburgh University to join the RAF. As a Pathfinder Squadron pilot he was killed, aged 22, attacking German V-weapon sites in France. If these sites had not been taken out Britain would have lost the war.

He was awarded the DFC (posthumously) and his war service is commemorated by his name in barely legible perishing letters on a war memorial on the Isle of Lewis. He was not married and left no children behind.

At 18, her age for conscription, in 1943 Margaret Thatcher opted to study at Oxford University rather than volunteer for the services when her country needed her the most at our darkest hour.

However, unlike my relation Mrs Thatcher became Prime Minister, left children behind, and was venerated by being honoured with a military funeral with bugles sounding, bands playing, generals saluting and the Queen paying her respects.

Despite the war history distortions for sleazy dishonourable political advantage by the Better Together campaign we were not in the war together, as Thatcher’s non-war effort proves.

Donald, it does not surprise me that a Tory (the most vile of creatures) should only think of themselves (typical trait of a rich/privileged capitalist) and what they can gain for themselves. The more this world and this country emulates the worlds biggest and greediest user of the worlds resources (and this country thinking of its self and also the biggest contributor to war and misery around the world over the past 100 years) because of a political party that only thinks of what it wants and what it can do for its rich business contributors (in the recent press about ‘ Fury as Tory Party Donors are handed NHS Contracts worth £1.5 billion under Tory Health Reforms ‘)

As said previously ‘ The only good (vile) Tory is a ……………… ‘.

This is the face of a certain stream of Scottish Nationalism writ large. History for simpletons displayed to the detriment of the case for Scottish independence. By all means carry on presenting your bilious, bitter ravings to the Scottish public and see them gather in increasing numbers to the UK Better Together banner. Cheers.

Sad to say most of the noise reaches around England to. A majority here in England would gladly love to vote in Scotland future too. But would you think Alex the Salmond would be any better, when on that day he stands shoulder to shoulder with William Wallace statue and tear in his eye, wrapped in Scotland flag. Shetland Island has equally every right to claim independence from Scotland more the pity they never went Jersey or Isle of Mann approach instead.

Donald J. MacLeod, what a load of codswallop. I served with men and women whom were willing and proud to die for “The United Kingdom”. They came from Scotland, England Wales and Ireland (North and South). It is good to see David Spence supporting your argument, that shows its true level of bitter vitriol.

Im pretty sure just as many people in England feel the same about Thatcher and their family members similarly lost their lives in the name of freedom and victory over the Nazis.
my only question is, what on earth does this story have to do with the independence debate.
Is it merely to stir up a bit of racism and anti English sentiment??
Childish and sickening to use OTHER peoples sacrifices to your horrible petty little ends.

Usual load of hatred from the Yes camp. Devoid of reason and argument play the xenophobic anti English card. Thank goodness the majority of Scotland is turned off by such crap.
