Crew swaps helicopters to attend medivac
A Sumburgh based rescue helicopter crew had a busy time today, being tasked to an offshore medivac an hour after returning to Sumburgh with their malfunctioning aircraft.
Golf Charlie, a Sikorsky S-92 helicopter, alerted Shetland coastguard around 10.45am that she was returning to base and had shut down one of her engines after developing a warning light while out on a routine training mission.
The helicopter had already called Sumburgh Airport control tower who adopted standard procedure by declaring an emergency and alerting the emergency services. Golf Charlie returned safely to base on one engine at 11.02am
At mid-day the crew were scrambled again to attend a medivac from Brent Bravo platform in the east Shetland basin and this time went in the sister-chopper Golf Bravo, which was standing by in Sumburgh. The helicopter was at the platform at 12.50pm and had returned to the Clickimin landing site by 2pm with the casualty, and returned to Sumburgh 20 minutes later.
