Helicopter diverted owing to fog
A rescue helicopter carrying an injured oil rig worker had to divert to Sumburgh after it couldn’t land at Clickimin owing to poor visibility early this morning.
Coastguard rescue 102 was scrambled from Sumburgh at 9.50pm and airlifted the crewman from the jack-up drilling rig Rowan Gorilla VII, around 160 miles south of Sumburgh.
It flew him first to Lerwick before heading back south for clearer conditions and landed at Sumburgh at 1.07am. The casualty was taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital by ambulance.
