Spurs triumph in Highland Fuels Trophy
Spurs have won the first senior football silverware of the season, the Highland Fuels Trophy, for the fourth time in a row.
The Lerwick side defeated Scalloway 3-1 in the final last night at Harbison Park in Symbister, following their 6-2 semi-final victory against town rivals Thistle last Thursday.
Spurs took the lead in the first half with a goal by midfielder Jordan Webb. They doubled the scoreline after the break when Webb scored from the penalty spot after Connol Gresham was brought down in the box.
Shane Jamieson scored a third for the winners from a terrific set piece. Scalloway got a consolation goal from the penalty spot.
The trophy for the competition, the annual curtain-raiser for the main outdoor season, was presented to Spurs captain Josie Kay by Peter Malcolmson.
The main action in the G&S Flooring Premier League begins on Friday with three matches – Celtic v Delting at Clickimin South, Thistle v Scalloway at Gilbertson Park and Whalsay v Ness United at Harbison Park.
