Reveller ‘lashed out’
A man who carried out an assault after being denied entry to a nightclub has appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court.
James Maloney, 21, of Sandside, Mossbank, “lashed out” for no apparent reason on a Saturday night out.
Appearing from custody before sheriff Philip Mann, Maloney admitted punching his victim on the head outside Posers on 10th May. He was on bail at the time.
The court heard Maloney had been out drinking and had tried to get a “stamp” which would afford him freedom to leave the nightspot and re-enter without having to pay twice at the door.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said Maloney had been told to come back later for the stamp, but on his return he was refused entry.
Mr Allan added Maloney had been in contact with the local community alcohol and drugs service, who regarded his problems as an anger management issue.
Sheriff Mann adjourned Maloney’s case until 26th June. He released him on bail with a special condition he stays away from the pubs.
