CITB to host apprenticeships event
A recruitment day for apprentices is being held at Shetland College on Wednesday between 4pm and 7pm.
The event is being staged by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Scotland, in partnership with the college and Shetland Construction Training Group.
Open to anyone interested in learning more about apprenticeships within the construction industry, the event will provide visitors a chance to meet with various employers from across the local industry and discuss current apprentice vacancies.
Covering several trades, including joinery, painting, bricklaying, plant maintenance and many others, employers will be available to offer advice to potential applicants about the benefits of apprenticeships, the requirements to secure a post and an overview of what college and on-site activity will entail.
Local CITB apprenticeships officer Gillian McKenzie said: “These events are a fantastic opportunity for anyone who’s considered a career in the construction industry and offers a great chance to meet employers face-to-face and make an early impression.
“They are also excellent for young people, who perhaps have never thought of an apprenticeship as a career option, before, to come along and learn about the opportunities on offer.
“Shetland employers are great supporters of apprenticeships and provide superb training for their workers. We had 20 apprentices taken on last year in the area and we’re hoping that this week’s event will help secure even more this year.”
