Top fiddler Maggie to play to thousands in opening show

Top Shetland fiddler Maggie Adamson is joining former Runrig frontman Donnie Munro for the opening concert of the HebCelt Festival in Stornoway tonight.
Up to 4,000 people are expected for the show and Adamson, who has played a number of gigs previously with Munro, including a tour of Germany with the singer, is performing with an eight-piece band.
Adamson said she could not wait to perform prior to taking to the stage.
She said performing with Munro was different to playing Shetland fiddle music, and there was room to work around Munroe’s musical ideas.
“It’s good fun when you get to play the lead guitar bits on the fiddle,” she added.
The stellar festival line-up includes Edinburgh singer-songwriter Adam Holmes, who was a hit at this year’s Shetland Folk Festival, Rachel Sermanni and Brighton folk-rockers The Levellers who performed at the Clickimin last night.
