Busy weekend for police
Police made a number of arrests for drink driving and various other offences over the weekend.
On Friday morning police breathalysed a 47-year-old man in Lover’s Loan after seeing him driving a car. He was found to be over the limit and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
On Friday evening police found a class A drug on a 19-year-old man driving along Scalloway Road. His car was stopped by patrolling officers who carried out a spot check.
About 3.25am on Saturday officers were called to Holmsgarth Pier following reports of a van being driven erratically. A 32-year-old man was arrested having provided a positive breath test. He then failed to provide a specimen of breath at Lerwick Police Station. The Latvian man, working as a fisherman on Shetland, appeared in Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday and was granted bail on condition he surrender his passport.
Police issued a fixed penalty notice to a 67-year-old driver for having no insurance after a routine documents check on Sunday. His car was seized.
A 48-year-old woman was issued with anti social behaviour fixed penalty following a disturbance in the Robertson Crescent area of Lerwick around 9.25pm on Sunday.
