Coastguard helicopter has busy Sunday
The Sumburgh rescue helicopter was involved in three more offshore medivacs yesterday taking sick workers from oil installations.
A call came in from the Griffon Alpha floating storage/production ship 95miles south-east of Sumburgh at 8.30am on Sunday and rescue helicopter 102 was tasked to pick up a sick crewman.
The man was landed at Sumburgh, as his condition was in “not such a bad state”, and he was taken to hospital by ambulance. According to a
Coastguard spokeswoman, the emergency landing site in Lerwick is not be used unless necessary in order to have a helicopter asset handy at Sumburgh – for more detail, see this Friday’s Shetland Times.
Another sick crewman was airlifted from the North Alwyn platform 106 miles north-east of Sumburgh by resuce helicopter 102 after coastguards received a call at 6.45pm. The man was airlifted to the emergency landing site in Lerwick and transferred to hospital.
The final sick crewman of the day was airlifted from the semi-submersible rig John Shaw 100 miles north-east of Sumburgh after a call came in at 11.30pm. The man was landed at Sumburgh at 2.15am by rescue helicopter 102 and taken to hospital by ambulance.
