Ideal conditions at Knab cross country race
More than 40 runners took part in yesterday’s cross country races at The Knab
With light winds and sunny intervals, conditions were near ideal with mostly firm ground underfoot.
Runners from juniors aged nine and under, through to senior men and women took part in the event organised by Shetland Amateur Athletics Club (SAAC).
For the first time, track and field athletes from the club, including sprinters, jumpers and throwers took part, using the event as an opportunity for some winter fitness training.
The course layout involved a combination of laps for different age categories, based on one smaller lap of 1km and a larger lap of 2.7km.
The event was the second of six open cross country events planned for the winter, with another to take place before the end of the year and three more to be organised for early in 2015.
Event organiser and club endurance coach, Mike Burns, said: “We’ve had another great day’s cross country. Well done to all the runners, especially some fantastic performances from the juniors. Thanks also to all the helpers and volunteers for marshalling, timekeeping and setting up the course.”
The next event is due to take place on Sunday 16th November.
