Power cut hits broadband service

A brief power-cut knocked out broadband connections in houses and businesses in North Lerwick today.

A series of electricity “blips” around 2.45pm are thought to have knocked out transmitters at Shetland Broadband’s Blackhill Industrial Estate relay station with the result that businesses in the vicinity were deprived of the internet from around 2.45pm to 4.20pm.

Shetland Broadband’s Ian Brown said that it was as yet impossible to say what the exact cause of the outage was but that the power cut had triggered the failure in the broadband service.
