Resilient shoots – catches triggerfish

The white fish trawler Resilient (LK 195) had an oddity among its catch during a recent fishing trip off Fetlar.

The vessel, skippered by Arthur Polson, trawled up a grey triggerfish, normally a denison of warmer seas including tropical and sub-tropical waters off west Africa and the Mediterranean.

Grey triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) are being recorded around Britain in increasing numbers, especially around the south and west, but there have been only six caught in Shetland waters in the last 20 years.

North Atlantic Fisheries College took custody of the unusual visitor which normally lives on rocky sea-bed in relatively shallow water less than 100m deep, and also around floating objects, and are not strong swimmers.

Their main food is hard-shelled prey, such as crabs, molluscs, sea urchins, and starfish.

I think it is further evidence that climate change is happening, and that the oceans are becoming warmer in certain parts of the planet. It also ties up with the rapid depletion of ice in the Arctic, Antarctic and Greenland. Even the recent announcement by the UN in regards to the consequences of not tackling climate change (mostly those people known as capitalists who only put their own selfish needs ahead of any thing else, despite the environmental damage they are causing and their ignorance prevailing to cause further destruction……..tunnel vision) will have a massive impact on future generations and population migrations.

Needless to say there will be those people who do not believe at all, despite all the evidence, that climate change is happening or that, worse still, humans are not having a detrimental affect to the environment (mostly those capitalists who are selfish and love to pollute the environment as long as they are making money) and consistently use excuses to justify their polluting actions (short term thinking is the prevailing line of thought from your average capitalist).

Remember Ali, the good old US of A, is only 4% of the worlds population, but produces 25% of the worlds pollution………is this the ideology you love and admire? Look after number 1, and screw everybody else in the process…………..what a good moral basis in which to live by.
