Orchestra calls for new members

The Shetland Community Orchestra is looking for new members and wants anybody interested in joining to attend rehearsals this month.

Those who play an orchestral instrument or other brass or woodwind instruments are invited to one of the first two rehearsals on Sunday 11th, or 18th January from 2pm to 5pm.

The full rehearsal schedule is Sundays 11th, 18th, 25th January; 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd February and 1st March. With a concert on Saturday 7th March.

A number of classical works with a link to theatre and stage are in the programme including: Egmont Overture, Beethoven and Night on Bare Mountain, Mussorgsky.

Two pieces will feature the vocal talents of the Veev choir: Polotsvian Dances, Borodin and Spells, Chilcott.

Following on with the theme more recent instrumental pieces will be performed incuding: Phantom of the Opera, Lloyd Webber; Chicago, Kander/Ebb arr. Ricketts and Nutcracker Suite Selection, Tchaikovsky
