Patricia Wells, 77, had lived in Brae for the last six months. Prior to that she was living in Suffolk. Her family live locally.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene after the car she was travelling in collided with a coach.
She and the driver were taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital but she died of injuries from the collision.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene after the call was received at about 11.50am.
Cutting equipment was used to allow access by paramedics.
On Monday police said two people were trapped in the car, though there were not thought to be any serious injuries.
As part of enquiries the police closed the B0970, close to the Brae Hotel.
Temporary chief inspector Lindsay Tulloch said today: “In the circumstances of this accident we sought the specialist support of road policing officers from the mainland, who have been carrying out road collision enquiries in the Brae area over the last two days.
“At the conclusion of their investigation a report will go to the procurator fiscal. Our thoughts go to the family at this time. It’s certainly a very tragic incident.”
